The Importance of Learning to Swim as an Adult
Swimming is a skill that can be acquired at any age, and it offers a wealth of benefits that extend beyond the pool. At SafelySwim we understand the initial worries and possible intimidation of joining a group of adults for the first time, not knowing what to expect or how the lesson runs. To help relax your fears, have a read of this news post!
Learning to Swim is not just about conquering the water; it’s about embracing a new level of fitness, enhancing mental well-being, and ensuring water safety for yourself and your family. We get a lot of parents who support their children in their Learn to Swim lessons, however, often over see their own fitness and water confidence. It’s time to change that.
Adult Learn to Swim
We currently offer our Adult Learn to Swim classes on a Wednesday and Friday evening, these sessions are perfect for those beginners and advanced. We separate the group into two enabling those confident swimmers to take part in a structured session, lane swimming and technical feedback. The other is for beginner, more cautious swimmers who want to work on their water skills, confidence and techniques at a slower phase. Nothing wrong with that!
What You Will Learn and Improve
- Floating and Treading Water: These fundamental skills are crucial for survival in the water. They allow you to stay afloat and conserve energy, whilst practicing balance all essential skills when swimming. Incorporating floating and gentle swimming into your routine will support your body’s relaxation and recovery.
- Breathing Techniques: Learning how to control your breath while swimming helps maintain calm and composure, reducing panic and keeping stroke technique continuous. Concentrating on your breathing will also allow yourself to relax and let go of daily stresses promoting a wider range of mental benefits.
- Muscle Tone and Strength: Using the water’s natural resistance to perform exercises like water jogging, leg lifts, and arm curls and using different strokes such as freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke to target various muscle groups will give your body a full workout promoting health and wellbeing.
- Routine and Consistency: Regular swimming sessions can help establish a sense of routine, providing stability and focus in your daily life improving all parts of your week and home/work life.
- Goal Setting: Setting achievable goals when with us, for example swimming a certain number of lengths or mastering a new stroke, to boost motivation and a sense of accomplishment.
