SafelySwim is going Green!

As our population grows so does the amount of plastic waste which we produce each year. SafelySwim is joining the recycling revolution with some important new changes that started in September. I’m sure many eagle eyed parents will have noticed our teacher’s enjoying a cup of tea or coffee around poolside, but from September our staff will be provided with reusable drinks cups to remove the need for single use coffee cups. More than 99% of disposable coffee cups don’t get recycled in the UK and this is greatly impacting upon the environment.

We are also ditching the plastic cutlery and plastic water bottles that used to be a part of our weekly purchases, using instead reusable bottles filled with tap water and cutlery from home. As plastic is a major culprit of environmental and oceanic damage this is clearly one of the biggest changes that needs to be made. No longer will our stash of snacks compromise of individually wrapped treats, but instead there will be a significant effort to purchase items in paper, cardboard, or other recyclable packaging. It’s great to see our teachers getting on board and bringing their own packaged lunches from home, in reusable containers.

All of our unneeded posters and other paper waste produced on Sundays is already recycled properly and efficiently. To cut down further, all our data and class information is kept on digital databases to reduce unnecessary printing.

It’s sad to see how humans have had such a negative impact upon both environment and wildlife, all for the price of one cup of coffee. We at SafelySwim are keen to make changes. If you have any suggestions about how we can further reduce our impact upon the environment please contact us with your ideas! See below for some interesting links if you want to find out more.
