Learn to Compete - Setting up Swimmers for Success
Our Learn to Compete sessions are designed for swimmers who want to build on their strong foundations and take their skills into the competitive swimming world.
These sessions refine the techniques learned in Learn to Swim (Stages 1–5) and help each swimmer become faster, more efficient, and more confident in the water.
Important: Swimmers in Stages 4 & 5 must continue with their regular Learn to Swim sessions alongside their additional Learn to Compete training. This ensures they keep developing essential life-saving skills while boosting their competitive skills.
What Will They Learn?
Swimmers will:
- Develop all four strokes to a higher level
- Practise tumble turns, dives, and backstroke starts
- Learn how to participate confidently in competitions
- Train alongside others at different levels, working on new skills or refining advanced techniques
We keep the whole pool working on similar focuses each session, so everyone progresses together in a fun, supportive environment.
Our Goals
We aim to help every swimmer build a solid foundation in competitive swimming, boosting their confidence, enjoyment, and ability to perform at their best in galas and competitions — all while keeping swimming fun and motivating!
What Should I Expect From Each Session?
Each hour-long session includes:
- A 5–15 minute warm-up (front crawl, backstroke, kick practice)
- Technique-focused sets, with drills to build strength and precision
- Fun challenges that encourage swimmers to push their limits safely
- Starts, turns, or fun activities in the last 5–15 minutes
How Do I Join?
You’ll receive an invitation from one of our SafelySwim instructors by email — and we always offer a free trial to make sure it’s the right fit.
If you’re new to SafelySwim but have lessons elsewhere, we can arrange a one-off Water Test to assess the swimmer’s level first.
