Water Safety Week

During our group lessons, on the week commencing Monday 4th of November, we will be focusing on teaching basic safety to our swimmers. This will replace some of the time which is generally used for jumping in at the end of the lesson as we feel it is so vital.

We feel that simple skills such as; the ability to climb out without assistance, entering the pool safely, and understanding the pool rules is vitally important for children to practise and understand.

In an emergency situation we may need all of our swimmers to get out of the pool in a calm and orderly manner. If they are in the middle of the pool this could mean the quickest option is climbing out over the side rather than swimming to steps at either end of the pool. There could also not be an option for teachers to assist every swimmer in this scenario, as we are trying to get swimmers out as quickly as possible. We want to ensure the safety of our swimmers and make sure they are not at risk in this scenario.

Exiting the water is also important outside of the swimming pool. Open water environments such as rivers or lakes aren’t going to have steps for climbing in and out of. This means the ability to climb out may help your child to save their own life if they were to ever end up in a body of water accidently. We want to ensure all of our swimmers are equipped with the necessary skills to deal with any water-based situation they may face.

Each stage will be taught safety skills appropriate to their ability and in a suitable pool depth.
