The Big Butterfly Count

The summer holidays can be a stressful time for most parents trying to keep the kids busy and entertained every single day. However, there is one small thing you can do for 15 minutes at a time and that’s count and identify Butterflies.

The Big Butterfly Count is a nationwide survey aimed at helping asses the health of our environment. Butterflies are very sensitive and react quickly to changes in their environment, so declines in butterfly numbers could be an early warning sign to other wildlife losses. That’s why counting them is so important.

In 2018 over 100,000 people took part and submitted over 90,000 counts of butterflies and day flying moths.

The Big Butterfly Count 2019 will be taking place between Friday 19th July and Sunday 11th August.
