Our approach to Video Analysis

SafelySwim works with a lot of competitive swimmers wanting to improve their speed and technique. The main focus for us, as we only get 30min a week, is to concentrate on each and every part of the stroke by breaking it down into small sections. Using our large range of equipment; bungee cords, parachutes, iPads and GoPro’s we are able to reflect and improve sections you would not normally notice.

We use iPads to record and display a persons swimming technique both in and out of the water. This allows us to analyse each and every part of a stroke, dive and turn. Being able to visually see the way you swim is a great asset, and can bring demonstrations and verbal feedback to life. The slow-motion feature allows both teacher and student to see and critic the stroke cycle, and highlight which part needs attention.

Using Video Analysis for dive practicing allows fast movements to be tracked slowly, for example noticing flicks or hand movements. We ensure every student at SafelySwim benefits from our Video Analysis, and it is something we constantly invest in.

GoPro’s on the pool floor increases our ability to critic an important element of a race, that would not usually be seen. Being able to show a swimmer their turn from under the water is something most of our competitive swimmers have never experienced, which is why we provide underwater Video Analysis.

Our goal with our competitive swimmers, is to enhance their training and stroke by using equipment they would not usually be able to use in a public swimming pool.

We ensure all videos taken are removed at the end of the day, and all parents have agreed to our Photography Policy. In the future, our appDot web-app will allow video upload for parents and students to re-view the videos taken of their swimming technique, as well as comments from the teacher that were made.
