Dover Schools Swimming Gala - Results

On Thursday 10th of March, India, Lee, Ashleigh, and I were lucky enough to spectate the Dover SSP Schools Swimming Gala hosted at the Dover Sports Centre. We were extremely impressed with the schools and students that took part in the competition, well done to everyone that swam!

Throughout the morning we were able to cheer on individuals who started learning to swim 2-3 years ago in our Stage 1, to now being able to swim the length or even win a medal! It was great to see so many swimmers and schools that took part that also join SafelySwim on a weekly basis.

The competition covers all four strokes; Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Also within the competition there are a few group relays and individual events for each year group spanning over 25 and 50 metres.

Results

We have totalled up the results from the competition;

  • 29 swimmers were from SafelySwim
  • 18 swimmers that received a medal are in our classes on a weekly basis
  • Top 4 year 3/4 25m Breastroke Boys were all SafelySwim swimmers
  • Top 3 year 3/4 25m Backstroke Girls were all SafelySwim swimmers
  • 5 of the 6 swimmers in the Girls year 5/6 Breastroke Final were SafelySwim swimmers

In my opinion, it is great to see so many regular faces take part and win medals at an event in our Dover community. I believe this shows we are a vital part of Dover and the way people want to learn to swim.

Thank You & Well Done

Overall, we want to say thank you to everyone that took part and all the volunteers that help and support this annual competition. It is a great thing to be a part of and I hope this will continue for the foreseeable future. Events such as these are so important for the swimming industry, and we hope these sessions become more regular over the coming years.
